Painting a Path to Deeper Learning: Subodh Public School's Journey with Phad se Padh Initiative

At Subodh Public School Near Airport, Sanganer in Jaipur, India, we believe in providing our students with a multidisciplinary and holistic education that goes beyond conventional classroom learning. As part of our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals, we embarked on an exciting collaboration with Rooftop for the 'Phad se Padh' initiative. This unique project aimed to integrate traditional art forms, particularly the 700-year-old art of Phad painting, into our academic curriculum. Let us take you on a journey to explore the positive impact of this initiative on our students' learning and appreciation of Indian art and culture.

Preserving Tradition and Strengthening Knowledge

The ‘Phad se Padh’ initiative at Subodh Public School Near Airport, Sanganer, Jaipur encourages our students to delve into the world of Phad painting by creating their own artworks based on their course outlines. By combining modern academic topics with traditional art, our students not only gain a deeper understanding of their subjects but also develop an appreciation for the delicate intricacies of ‘Phad’ paintings. This initiative serves a dual purpose: preserving the ancient art form and providing an unorthodox method of learning that strengthens cognitive and applied knowledge.

As part of the Phad se Padh initiative, our students embarked on an extraordinary journey to explore the life and contributions of Tansen, one of India's greatest musicians. Guided by our dedicated teachers and inspired by the traditional Phad style of folk painting, our students created a magnificent Phad artwork measuring 30 x 5 ft using mixed media. This captivating canvas consisted of 40 intricately designed blocks, each showcasing a different aspect of Tansen's story. The lyrics accompanying the artwork were in Hindi, adding a cultural touch to the project.

The Impact of Arts-Integrated Education on Student Learning

The Phad se Padh initiative has had a profound impact on our students' learning experiences. Through this multidisciplinary approach, our students celebrated Rajasthan's rich cultural heritage while delving deep into Tansen's life and contributions. By combining art, dance, and music, the initiative provided a unique platform for student engagement and creativity. Through their involvement in the project, our students developed essential 21st-century skills such as teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication.

This initiative aligns perfectly with our school's commitment to an arts-integrated curriculum. This approach ensures that the arts become the foundation for teaching and the vehicle for learning. By exploring the connections between the art form of Phad painting and other subject areas, our students gain a greater understanding of both. Through the Phad se Padh initiative, our students experienced the mutually reinforcing nature of arts integration, where dramatizations and artistic expressions provided authentic contexts for learning and understanding.

Conclusion

The Phad se Padh initiative has undoubtedly left an indelible impact on our students. By integrating traditional art forms like Phad painting into our academic curriculum, we have witnessed the immense potential for creativity, cultural appreciation, and holistic learning. Through this collaboration with Rooftop, we have opened new doors for our students, enabling them to forge deeper connections between their academic subjects and the vibrant cultural tapestry of India. As we continue this journey, we are excited to see our students grow into well-rounded individuals with a profound respect for art, culture, and the values ingrained in   our heritage.
